Training and Development

Many people use these terms - and "education" - interchangeably.  The academic definitions are:

Training - the acquisition of knowledge and skills to be applied in one's current position/responsibilities (to achieve mastery).

Development - the acquisition of knowledge and skills to be applied at some point in the future in preparation for a designated new position/responsibilities.

Education - the acquisition of knowledge and skills that may be applied at some point in the future in an as-yet-undesignated position/responsibilities.
